About the Farmtrac Group of Companies
In November 1981, Oscar Wichmann, with full enthusiasm and motivation, decided to commence his small business in Dundee by starting to convert a house into a business premise. Oscar, who grew up on a farm, wanted to sell tractors and spares to the farmers in and around Dundee and help them to receive the implements easier and faster. He named it Farmtrac Spares, which means farming and tractors. The name said everything about the business and was also easy to pronounce and remember. Oscar, with two other employees, traded in all tractor replacement spares.
At the end of 1984, the small business expanded and a workshop was built on the same premise. Farmtrac Spares changed its name to Farmtrac Dundee and the business grew into a medium corporate business. In January 1988, Richard Catlett, who is now the Financial Director, joined ownership with the Managing Director, Oscar Wichmann. At the end of the year 2009, Farmtrac Dundee had a total amount of 30 employees, with Douglas Long being the Sales Manager and Annelize Oosthuizen doing the Administration.
Oscar and Richard joined ownership with Werner and Dieter Tschirpig to open a Farmtrac branch in Vryheid in 1996. Werner, Vryheid Branch Manager and Sales Manager, and Dieter, Technical Manger, started working in Vryheid with two other employees helping them. Now, at the end of 2009, Farmtrac Vryheid has a total number of 15 employees with Marianndl Landman being the Administrative Manager. This branch has grown and flourished tremendously over the past years.
Both
Farmtrac Dundee and Farmtrac Vryheid are a Massey Ferguson
Franchise and trade in tractor sales, spares and repairs.
In 2003 Oscar took Electro Guard under Farmtrac Dundee’s division, having Ronald Nuss as the manager and a total number of 7 employees, who help construct and erect palisade and electric fencing and gates.
In 2005, Oscar and Richard decided to open Battery Centre and an Auto Electrical Centre which are divisions of Farmtrac Dundee. Both Battery Centre and the Auto Electrical Centre have grown immensely over the years with a total number of 13 employees. Here customers can get supplies for, or can bring their vehicles in for, repairs of starters, alternators or auto electrical spares. Farmtrac Auto Electrical Centre also has an automotive diagnostic tool, a tool which helps the Auto Electricians pinpoint the vehicle’s problem and freeze-frame live timing by performing a scan of the various areas of the customer’s vehicle. This is more time efficient and cost effective for the customers. Unfortunately this can only be used in the newer vehicle models which have a computer system. In 2008 Battery centre received the BATTERY CENTRE OF THE YEAR Trophy. In the year 2010, Farmtrac Battery Centre acquired the Motolek Franchise; selling brands such as Bosch, Hella, New Era, RCP.INC and ZEN.
The
year 2009 arrived and the four owners of Farmtrac Vryheid
decided that there was a need to open an outlet in Paulpietersburg,
which at
the moment only trades in tractor replacement spares. With two
employees, Rudi
Raatz and Moses Madiba. Farmtrac
Paulpietersburg is
still growing and
flourishing.
‘Service
Excellence’, the slogan for the Farmtrac group,
shows that the directors, managers and every single employee tries
his/her best
to serve the customer. Without our employees and our customers this
business
would not be able to expand and thrive.
